Cornwall, the home of the Pasty.
However, do not be fooled into thinking that Cornwall is merely quaint or picturesque. The Cornish have always been modern-minded and enterprising folk, from the great chemist Sir Humphrey Davy to Richard Trevithick, Cornish inventor of the steam engine. Their creations helped bring about the industrial age, which allowed for the mining development of Cornwall’s rich tin resources, causing engine houses with their tall chimneys to spring up all over the untamed Cornish landscape. Tin has been an important Cornish trade commodity since antiquity. Tradition has it that the wives of mine workers wrapped up their husband’s lunch of meat and vegetables in a handy pastry shell that protected it on it’s journey down the mine shaft. From such humble origins, the legend of the pasty was born!
